VDS Info and victim support service
In 2003, Victimology Society of Serbia (VDS) founded the first general service for victims that provides support for all victims of crime – men and women, regardless of age, nationality, religion, gender, sexuality or any other personal characteristic.
Anyone can suffer physical and/or psychological harm, destruction or damage of the property, fear and harsh attack on their basic human rights due to commited criminal act. After that, you may feel angry, worried and alone. No matter when that happened – today, months or years ago – you can ALWAYS reach out to us.
VDS Info and victim support service answers to the most common needs of victims and provides:
- Information about rights of victims and ways those can be exercised
- Trust, understanding, empowering support
- Considering the possibilities for solving problems
- Activating the support within family and local community
- Information about psychological reactions and dynamics of recovery
- Legal and psychological help
- Practical information about reintegrating various life aspects after traumatising event
- Referral to competent and specialized institutions/organizations, depending on the specific needs of victims;
- Court accompaniment and support, as well as communication with state institutions.
The principles of the Service’s work are:
- trust
- respect for the person seeking support (their rights, needs, and feelings)
- confidentiality of information
- the principle of independence in making final decisions
